YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan believes armed showdown is absolutely unacceptable.
During the Friday briefing held at the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ohanyan commented on the scandalous shooting incident near the house of the governor of Syunik region, the Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent reports.
The Minister said that the day before he visited the wounded Artak Budaghyan, adding that had not done it earlier because he was outside the country.
“I had a brief conversation with him about the incident,” he added.
Seyran Ohanyan noted that he condemns any incidents committed on the background of interpersonal relationships not only between the military but civilians.
“We have so many external threats from hostile neighbors that everything inside should be resolved peacefully,” the Minister emphasized.
However, he stressed that condemns all attacks against soldiers and officers, once again noting that he considers the cause of the incident was interpersonal relationships. The minister does not think that reputation of the officer was damaged.
Asked whether the tragic incident was a result of impunity, the Minister said that in recent years, law enforcement agencies carried out consistent work, and the atmosphere of impunity is minimized. He recalled that the investigation is under the personal supervision of the Chief of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Defense.
