YEREVAN. – Gohar Vardanyan, the wife of legendary spy and hero of the Soviet Union Gevorg Vardanyan, was awarded by the Defense Ministry during a solemn ceremony on Saturday.

The ceremony was attended by Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan, Chief of Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov, RussianAmbassador to Armenia Ivan Volynkin, other officials and guests, including First Lady Rita Sargsyan.

Participants of the event recalled unforgettable episodes from the biography of the famous intelligence officer. In his speech, Minister Ohanyan noted only a small part of Vardanyan’s activities has been declassified to date, but even this is enough to list him among the greatest spies in the world.
