YEREVAN. – Our non-participation in the inauguration of Armenian capital city Yerevan’s newly-elect mayor is an expression of our protest against the rigged elections.
The Yerevan Council of Elders’ opposition Heritage Party-led “Barev [Hello], Yerevan” faction member Anahit Bakhshyan stated the aforesaid during a press conference on Tuesday.
In his turn, faction member Styopa Safaryan noted that they have sent reports to the Police concerning hundreds of election violations, and therefore the results of such elections cannot be considered fair.
“We cannot do what we want with these six [Council] mandates that we received from the citizens; but we will work with the six mandates, too. The [political] party that assumed responsibility for governance in Yerevan continues to remain apathetic to the problems. This shows that they are disconnected with this nation and the people’s problems. [But] they are called to solve the problems of the city,” Safaryan added.
