YEREVAN. – The total amount of tax and customs privileges to be granted to Dilijan International School is close to $20 million.

Armenia’s Deputy Finance Minister Suren Karayan noted the aforesaid during the National Assembly (NA) special session on Wednesday.

But, as per Karayan, by granting such privileges to the investor, the state will gain tenfold owing to the taxes paid by the other organizations that cooperate with this investor. He stated that Armenia stands ready to assist all the major investors.    

In response, opposition Heritage Party MP Zaruhi Postanjyan stated that Dilijan International School is a dubious project.

“Had they wished to carry out an honest project, they would not have asked for our permission,” she said.

To note, the bill on granting tax and customs privileges to Dilijan International School is on the second-hearing agenda of the NA special session. But opposition MPs are against granting tax privileges to this school. 

The “We are against the reopening of foreign language schools” initiative is against the opening of schools like Dilijan International School. The initiative members note that Armenian children in Armenia should be educated in Armenian alone, but simultaneously be taught two or more foreign languages.
