YEREVAN. – We should be glad that the authorities are trying to expose thorny issues, ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MP Sukias Avetisyan stated during a press conference on Wednesday.
He stressed that it is very important that the recent Control Chamber (CC) report was accompanied for the first time by the remarks by the Government representatives and explanations were given.
“I believe we will have legislative changes in September and an opportunity to hold such-format discussions in the commissions. If the Control Chamber sees misuse [of the state budget], it should submit the [respective] cases to the prosecutor’s office, [and] the guilty [must] be punished,” the MP said.
In his turn, Democratic Party of Armenia Chairman Aram Sargsyan noted that the CC had presented blatant facts, but these cases were subsequently “slumbered” numerous times.
“If such misuse is exposed at a ministry, the minister is the culpable one. But note at least one example when someone has yet been brought to account,” Sargsyan addressed Avetisyan.
And the RPA MP replied by asking: “Must a minister be arrested to say exposure [of misuse]?”
And Aram Sargsyan replied: “Show me a case when the authorities took some steps to be deprived of monopoly.”
