YEREVAN. – Armenia’s economic activity index grew by 5.3 percent from January to May 2013, as compared with the same time period last year, the National Statistical Service informs.

As compared to January-May 2012, this year’s industrial growth constituted 8 percent and the agricultural growth was 1.3 percent. The volume of construction, however, dropped by 8.8 percent, whereas the service sector recorded a 5.8-percent growth. 

The trade turnover in May made up AMD 174 billion (approx. $417,563,463), and it exceeded last month’s respective indicator by 4.6 percent.

Between January and May 2013, the production of electricity dropped by 4.4 percent, as compared to the same time period last year, and by 1.8 percent, as compared to April..  

The average monthly salary in Armenia constituted AMD 149,400 (approx. $359) in May 2013, as compared to AMD 142,700 (approx. $342) in April.
