YEREVAN. – Armenia looks toward developing relations with Iraq.
Armen Gevorgyan—Armenia’s Deputy PM, Territorial Administration Minister, and Co-Chair of the Armenian-Iraqi Intergovernmental Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation—noted the aforesaid during his meeting Tuesday with Ghazi Taher Khaled, Iraq’s newly appointed Ambassador to Armenia.
The deputy PM congratulated the ambassador on his appointment, and highlighted that the diplomat is assuming his mission in Armenia at a phase when bilateral ties between Armenia and Iraq are developing in dynamic fashion, the Territorial Administration Ministry press service informs.
Gevorgyan also stated that the Armenian-Iraqi relations have started to develop quite intensively and the abovementioned committee is established.
“The committee will give a more coordinated nature to bilateral relations and contribute to the expansion of trade and economic ties,” Gevorgyan added.
In his turn, the Iraqi ambassador noted that the authorities of his country are interested in deepening relations with Armenia, and he considered his appointment and the reopening of the Iraqi Embassy to be a proof of this fact. As per Ghazi Taher Khaled, there is a well-prepared foundation for the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
