YEREVAN.– Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said Azerbaijan is not abandoning attempts to continue arms race.
Noting that Armenia cannot but be concerned over sales of weapons to Azerbaijan, the Minister recalled that military and technological cooperation between Armenia and strategic partner Russia is at high level.
“We do everything to preserve balance of forces not only due to quantitative but qualitative superiority,” he told reporters, commenting on Russia’s selling weapons to Azerbaijan.
This transparency leads to the fact that each supply and imbalance is controlled, including control by a strategic partner that puts a certain obligation to regional countries in terms of non-use of weapons.
“We have close relationship with Russia. An important document on development of military-technical cooperation was signed on Tuesday which will give an opportunity to build this cooperation on a higher international level. It will also enable military industry enterprises of the two states to conclude agreements on deepening ties and creating new businesses,” Ohanyan said.
Defense Minister reiterated that the situation is under control.
“As for the arms race, we repeatedly stated the government of Azerbaijan is trying to keep the arms race in the region. We will not allow them draw us in the arms race. The emphasis is on quality,” he added.
