EU decided to launch accession talks with Serbia, president of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy wrote on Twitter.
The exact date of the start of negotiations has not been determined yet. According to BBC News, the talks will not start earlier than January 2014.
The decision came several days before Croatia becomes the 28th EU member state.
