YEREVAN. – Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received President Dean Spielmann of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The PM expressed a hope that Spielmann’s visit to Armenia will contribute to the development bilateral interaction, the Government press service informs. 

“Considering the rulings by the European Court of Human Rights, we have made numerous legislative changes. In this respect, we attach great importance to the enhancement of bilateral cooperation,” he said.    

Sargsyan informed that Armenia has a large reform agenda, and stated that there are tangible results in the formation of civil society in the country. 

In his turn, the ECtHR chief judge likewise underscored the development of discourse with Armenia, and expressed a hope that this dialogue would reach a new qualitative level during his term in office.  

The interlocutors discussed the avenues for creating a strong foundation for human rights, the system of justice, and the cases which the European Court of Human Rights is examining at present.
