YEREVAN. – The Constitution specifies Armenia’s path to development, and the main law must perform certain tasks at each phase.
Ruling Republican Party (RPA) MP, National Assembly Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Chairman Davit Harutyunyan told the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
“I believe the role of the Constitution is especially stressed during the development phases of the country. In addition, problems have risen which need to be addressed by way of a constitutional amendment,” Harutyunyan maintained.
He added that the matters concerning such amendments should first be discussed within RPA, and only after which may they become a subject for public debate.
As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Armenia marks Constitution Day on July 5. The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia (RA) was adopted by a national referendum on July 5, 1995. The amendments to the RA Constitution were approved by a referendum held on November 27, 2005. With these amendments, the powers of the National Assembly were broadened.
