Georgia expresses readiness to resume direct air traffic with Russia, said Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze at March 8 briefing.

The major incentive for this decision she called “interests of Georgian citizens”.

“The matter is that aerial service was suspended not on our initiative. There are many ways for them to approach us officially,” Kalandadze declared, adding that state's role in this issue is minor and Georgia might only give permission, the official informed.

“If Russia expresses such a wish, there is a corresponding procedure to inform us officially on the matter through Swiss Embassy,” deputy Minister noted.

According to her, a vivid example of such cooperation is the opening of Upper Lars checkpoint on the border, Georgia Online reports.
