Turkish President Abdullah Gul made a statement after the adoption of Armenian Genocide Resolution by Swedish Parliament. “We are well-aware how these decisions are made. We do not attach special significance to them,” he emphasized.

“I would like to repeat what I said after the adoption of Resolution by U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs. If you ask those opinions who voted for the resolution, hardly they could say three words. No need to attach significance to this. We should not make a federal case out of the decisions, which provoke disrespect,” Gul said.

Turkey recalled its Ambassador from Stockholm and cancelled Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Sweden scheduled on March 17, after the adoption of Armenian Genocide Resolution by Swedish Parliament.

As NEWS.am reported previously, majority of Swedish parliament voted in favor of resolution describing the mass killings of Armenians and other Christian minorities in modern Turkey by the end of World War I as genocide. A number of conservative MPs voted for the resolution, which resulted in motion passing by a casting vote-131 against 130.

A week ago U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs adopted Armenian Genocide Resolution Ankara withdrew Turkish Ambassador Namik Tan to hold consultations.
