YEREVAN. – Construction of a multi-storey residential building in Yerevan was suspended thanks to active struggle of the local residents.

One of the activists, director Tigran Khzmalyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that situation remains tense. Police officers and activist are on duty at the construction site.

The director informed about the visit of the head of administrative district Hrayr Antonyan who tried once against “to deceive people”.

“But the locals said they do not trust him anymore and will not allow put up multi-storey buildings in the neighborhood,” Khzmalyan said.

On Wednesday morning residents of the nearby homes clashed with police. As reported previously, the construction was started long ago, but was suspended. Now the builders have started to work again. Protesters and residents of the district are trying to stop the construction of high-rise building.
