YEREVAN. – Russian president Vladimir Putin’s trip to Baku had nothing, or almost nothing, to do with Arrmenia, director of Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said.
Iskandaryan believes the incumbent president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will be elected for the third time.
“It will be interesting to see the percent of votes. If it works in a normal Azerbaijani style, he will be elected with 120 percent,” he emphasized.
Referring to the statement by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on benefit of Aliyev’s election for Armenia, the political scientist said that this was a step focused on different sides.
“It is unlikely that Aliyev was extremely pleased that he was supported by ‘mysterious enemy’ Serzh Sargsyan,” Iskandaryan said.
His statement was aimed at sending a message to the international community that Armenia needs stability in Azerbaijan, Iskandaryan said.
Armenian President has recently expressed the view that re-election of the incumbent President Ilham Aliyev will be beneficial for Armenia.
Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for 9 October.
