YEREVAN. – Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan will send a petition to the police in connection with the incident near the construction site of a high-rise in Komitas Avenue, he said in a statement.

In his statement, Ombudsman expressed concern over law enforcers’ actions towards the activists, including use of violence against activists Argishti Kiviryan. He noted that the actions of police and Yerevan municipality are the focus of letters received by Ombudsman’s office.

“As for the abuse and resistance to authority by individual citizens, the courts will give assessment of their actions. Unfortunately, few expect an honest investigation under the current judicial system. The causes of arbitrariness and illegal behavior often cause the distrust of citizens to a fair trial,” the statement says.
