YEREVAN. – “Let’s liberate monument from an oligarch” initiative will use all legal methods to save the Closed Market in the center of Armenian capital.

One of the initiators of the group Garegin Chugaszyan said their aim is to hold the owner accountable, force him to compensate the damage inflicted to the monument, make the owner restore the previous style of the building. If the mentioned demands are not met, they will work to deprive the owner from right to property.

“We have been witnessing how the monument has been destroyed for already two years,” he said during the Thursday media conference.

Over last two years citizens and initiative groups have repeatedly addressed state agencies on illegal actions. The owner was fined two times, but the construction work continued.

The initiative group will stage numerous protest actions and pickets to achieve its goals, Chugaszyan concluded.
