YEREVAN. – The ongoing battle around the Covered Market—in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan—is not for the preservation of a historical monument, but rather against businessman Samvel Aleksanyan.
Socialist Movement of Armenia leader Robert Aharonyan noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Wednesday.
“The façade will not be demolished at the area where the market is being restored. And what it will be called is the second matter.
“As a socialist, I abhor each and every oligarch. But a normal work is being done in that area. Now, we have one businessman. Should he leave Armenia, too?” Aharonyan stated and asked.
He added, however, that he neither knows nor has met with Aleksanyan.
Robert Aharonyan also noted that no one fought against the demolishment of several monuments earlier, but they would have waged a battle had a businessman been behind those destructions.
