YEREVAN. – The British Embassy in Armenia on Wednesday marked the 30th anniversary of the Chevening Scholarships, a program funded by the British government.
The event was attended by alumni and candidates for 2013/14 scholarship who will get education in the best universities of the UK.
Welcoming the guests, UK Ambassador to Armenia Katherine Leach noted that 700 students from 160 states participated in this year’s program. She said three Armenian candidates, instead of two, participated in the program thanks to financial support of HSBC bank.
“The scholarship is important for us as it is for people who want to make something different. It is not only about intellect, it is about people who have aspiration to change something,” she told reporters.
Three candidates – Oksana Musaelyan, Ani Minasyan and Davit Melikyan – are participating from Armenia this year. Over 100 Armenian students got education in UK thanks to Chevening program over 15 years.
