YEREVAN. – During Monday’s National Assembly (NA) session, secretary Naira Zohrabyan of the Prosperous Armenia Party NA Faction stated that FM Edward Nalbandian should be summoned to the parliament, to provide information on the situation concerning the Armenia-EU Association Agreement and the ongoing processes regarding the Customs Union.

In turn opposition Armenian National Congress MP Nikol Pashinyan proposed the holding of an NA discussion devoted to Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union.

NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the President of Armenia has the right to make decisions independently, and without consulting with the parliament.

“I am convinced that the decision to join the Customs Union is in the best interests of our state, our people, and I do not agree with the views that we are losing our sovereignty and independence. On the contrary, in this way, we are trying to solve the problems that our country faces,” Abrahamyan stated.

Opposition Heritage Party NA Faction leader Ruben Hakobyan likewise proposed to call the FM to the parliament.

To note, as a result of the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, it was announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
