YEREVAN. - The program on extension of Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) life span to be amended, Armenian News-NEWS.am reports. The amended program will be discussed on Armenia’s Government meeting on Sep. 13.
In particular, Armenia’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources must start works with Russian Rosatom State Energy Corporation on the development of intergovernmental agreement prior to March 1, 2014. In the framework of the agreement, Roastom will participate in a comprehensive monitoring of the equipment and facilities of the Armenian NPP.
The second power unit of Armenian NPP has been put in operation in 1980 with 30 years of designed life span. However, taken into account that the power unit was not operating in 1989-1995, its life cycle has already been extended till Sep. 2016.
