YEREVAN. – Armenia loses numerous cases at the European Court of Human Rights, and that is why considerable sums of money are paid from the state budget to the plaintiffs, as compensation.

Opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party National Assembly (NA) Faction leader Armen Rustamyan stated the above-said at the NA Wednesday, as he posed a question to Grigor Badiryan, member candidate to the Judicial Council.

According to Rustamyan, Armenia’s judges should reimburse the money that is paid from the taxpayers’ pockets, and at the judges’ fault.

Badiryan responded that the European Court examines solely the cases where the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights have been violated.

As per Badiryan, sometimes these provisions are violated not at the judge’s fault, but rather because the laws run counter to the Convention.

And if the judge is at fault, certain disciplinary fines are specified.
