YEREVAN. – Armenia is connected to Russia with many different threads, but there is absolutely no opportunity today to develop these ties.

Caucasus Institute Director and political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan noted the aforesaid during a Yerevan-Moscow live television link on Thursday.

In his words, however, everything is not clear with respect to the Customs Union.

“The decision, which was made on September 3 in Moscow, was political. But long work is needed to bring a precise meaning to this decision, [and] to turn it into a real cooperation along the lines of the Customs Union,” Iskandaryan noted.

The analyst added that the customs norms, movement of goods, and numerous other matters need to be coordinated.

In Alexander Iskandaryan’s words, ultimately, there is the problem of the absence of a common border between Armenia and Russia, and some roads need to be passed in order to prepare appropriate plans and agreements.

To note, following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.
