YEREVAN. – Ecologist says 29 open-pit sites are functioning in the territory of Yerevan.
“It poses risks to the environment in the city. The dust from the stone-pits and construction sites pollute the city’s air,” said Karine Danielyan, chairman of “For Sustainable Human Development” NGO.
In the daytime, she added, nitrogen compounds as well as CO2 concentration may exceed the limit up to 9 times.
“In general, Yerevan can be attributed to rather moderately polluted cities. But, this does not mean that the city government must do nothing. All the world cities are concerned over reducing emissions. Yerevan officials, on the contrary, are not thinking about it,” ecologist told reporters.
