YEREVAN. – Hakob Injighulyan had gotten lost at night and found himself in Azerbaijani territory. And the absence of state contacts with the Azerbaijani leadership primarily prevents his return.  

Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan stated the aforesaid Wednesday during his talk with the students and faculty at Yerevan State University.  

Ohanyan added that activities toward his return are carried out with mediation by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).  

In his words, Armenia is doing everything to have its soldier return to his homeland.

“There will never be a legal prosecution against Hakob because had become lost. I would not want for anyone to be in Hakob’s place and become a captive. We still do not know what kind of pressures he is under, but we a rough idea,” Seyran Ohanyan said.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Armenian soldier Hakob Injighulyan (born in 1991) found himself in the territory under the control of the adversary. According to preliminary information, Injighulyan turned up there on August 8 at around 3am, while carrying out his military service, by crossing the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR)-Azerbaijan border, and as a result of losing his orientation in the area. He was taken to Azerbaijani capital city Baku the next day. The ICRC was able to meet with the Armenian prisoners of war on August 20. To note, Injighulyan was made to wear the military clothing of the Azerbaijani army and give several interviews.
