YEREVAN. – Independence gained in 1991 was a great achievement for the sake of Armenia’s future. We have to love and respect it, member of “Barev, Yerevan” bloc Anahit Bakhshyan said.

She blamed the Armenian authorities for current situation in the country, adding that tremendous efforts are necessary to preserve independence.

As to a remark that Armenian people seem not to be so enthusiastic about celebrating the holiday, Bakhshyan noted it is the result of social conditions.

Armenia marks the 22nd anniversary of Independence on September 21.
