YEREVAN. – The collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office in Armenia will yield positive results for the refugees and displaced persons.   

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister and Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan noted the aforesaid during his talk Tuesday with Christophe Birvirt, new representative of the UNHCR Office in Armenia.

The deputy PM presented the current problems faced by the Armenians that were forcibly displaced from Azerbaijan and by the Syrian Armenians living in Armenia.

He stated that the most important challenge is their housing problem, and noted with regret that it was impossible to completely solve the housing issue of the Armenians that were forcibly displaced from Azerbaijan about twenty years ago. He added, however, that the government of Armenia is trying to create conditions for the housing of the Syrian Armenians.    

At the same time Gevorgyan noted that effective joint projects were implemented the UNHCR Office in Armenia. He also pointed to the cooperation with the office in several domains.

On his part, Birvirt expressed willingness to continue the cooperation. He underscored the ensuring of necessary conditions for the refuges and displaced persons, and expressed readiness to invite the international donor organizations’ attention on this matter.
