YEREVAN. – Convicted opposition activist Tigran Arakelyan has been in jail for a long time, and I hope he would be able to wait few hours before he gets information about the amnesty, MP from ANC parliamentary faction Gagik Jahangiryan said.
Asked whether he shares the view that the amnesty was announced specifically for the release of Arakelyan, Jahangiryan gave a negative answer.
“I do not think an amnesty is offered to free one person from criminal responsibility. The amnesties of 2009 and 2011 were focused on the release of political prisoners, but many people were either released or had their terms shortened then,” he noted.
