YEREVAN. – The natural population growth in Armenia could stop as of 2017.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Armenia Executive Representative Garik Hayrapetyan noted the aforementioned during a press conference on Tuesday.

In his words, this conclusion is based on the current birth and emigration rates.

In turn Labor and Social Affairs Ministry official Anahit Gevorgyan stressed that Armenia is among the list of the rapidly aging countries, and 14.4 percent of the country’s population is already over the age of 60.

As per, Gevorgyan, this fact is due to the drop in birth rate, the emigration rate, and also the increase in the average life expectancy in the world.
