YEREVAN. – Armenian airline companies may receive tax exemptions when purchasing airplanes.

Government-Affiliated General Department of Civil Aviation Head Artyom Movsisyan submitted to the Cabinet session a bill, whereby the Armenian airline companies will be exempted from the value added tax (VAT) when buying airplanes.

“At the present phase, there is tension in Armenia’s civil aviation sector, and work is carried out toward incorporating the Armenian aircraft operators into the air transport market, and a small aircraft development process is in progress,” notes the statement submitted to the government.

It was noted that the VAT, which is paid when purchasing an airplane, is a serious obstacle for the Armenian airline companies and it causes problems in the competition with foreign airline companies.
