YEREVAN. – Armenian parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan on Friday met with the heads and representatives of NGOs dealing with the problems of the disabled people.
The participants presented their proposals on specific provisions of draft law on persons with disabilities which is being elaborated in Armenia.
The Speaker noted that the issues and problems of the disabled are the focus of the state, and they should be addressed through legislation. According to him, the parliament should be a platform to discuss issues and concerns of persons with disabilities.
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs Hakob Hakobyan informed that the draft bill is still under discussion. The participants raised a number of key issues, among them the need for construction of ramps, problems with transport, installation of traffic lights.
A working group of five people has been set up to participate in the discussions of the draft law on the disabled.
“I am ready to assist you on any matter,” Abrahamyan told the participants.
