YEREVAN. – Head of the Union of Employers Gagik Makaryan said Armenia must attract “pure” industry, first of all assembly lines.
“If the components of the assembly are imported, the risk of pollution will disappear,” he said.
Such companies will need small investments not exceeding $1-1.5 million, but it will be difficult to export such goods because of difficulties with transport communications.
“Consequently, they are designed only for domestic consumption. As to cars, Armenia imports about 20-25 thousand vehicles per year. The question is which import can be replaced by local production,” he said.
At the same time, Makaryan added that influential figures stand behind the markets, and they can make implementation of the projects more complicated.
