YEREVAN. – Accession to Customs Union is in Armenia’s national interests, including economic, trade and security interests, MP from Orinats Yerkir party said.

“Our party is neither pro-European, nor pro-Russian. We are simply pro-Armenian. We always stand for protection of European values and approaches. In this terms the reforms and modernization of political and economic system in line with European approaches is in the country’s interests,” Mher Shahgeldyan noted.

Armenia’s accession to Customs Union includes first of all economic security and security in a wider sense, politician said, at the same time pointing to geopolitical factors.  

“If the president of Kazakhstan says that Turkey is willing to join the Customs Union, and Turkey’s leadership is not denying the fact, it means there is a certain geopolitical situation that must be taken into account,” Shahgeldyan added.
