YEREVAN. – The initiative of four non-coalition parliamentary factions to convene an extraordinary session of the National Assembly’s counting commission and petition to the Constitutional Court is an attempt to lead society astray.

This was stated by the head of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia Galust Sahakyan during a press conference on Wednesday.

He said the counting commission performs technical functions only, otherwise the opposition factions would unite and ruin, for example, the election of the chairman of the National Assembly.

“This is a technical process, and if it comes to a secret ballot in parliament, it implies a completely different process, but when it comes to the open ballot, the votes can be counted not only by a commission but any deputy or a journalist,” he said.

Sahakyan underlined that 200-300 people who gathered at the parliament building do not understand what is happening and want the opposition to voice their discontent.
