YEREVAN. – Turkish President Erdogan will not attend events marking centennial of the Armenian Genocide in Yerevan, an Armenian political analyst is convinced.

Gagik Harutyunyan, head of Noravank center, believes Erdogan will not come to Armenia, however, admits that inviting him for April 24 commemoration was a smart diplomatic move.

“It is difficult to say what steps Turkish side will made, but I must say they are closely following the Armenian policy and trying to mitigate possible consequences of the centennial of Genocide,” he told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Asked whether international pressure on Turkey in relation to this matter will increase, the analyst said: “As we can see, it's the international community that for 100 years lives with the knowledge of this fact, and some countries do not recognize the Genocide, especially this refers to U.S.. So, I think, some words will be said, French President will come to Armenia, but not more”.

Gagik Harutyunyan added that there will be some statements from Erdogan that he is sorry for what happened, and nothing more.

Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian invited Turkish president to visit Armenia on April 24,2015 after inauguration ceremony in Ankara.
