YEREVAN. – International community has inadequate reaction to diversion attempts and shelling of the Armenian territory by Azerbaijan, spokesperson for the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He stressed this is not the first incident when Azerbaijani side is shelling Armenia, firing at civilians and making diversion attempts.

“This is an Azerbaijani style that is not a surprise for the Armenian side. However, it is strange that the world community is silent, and this inadequate behavior plays into Baku's hands. At the same time Armenian armed forces repeatedly proved they are capable of giving response,” he added.

The recent incident on Armenia-Azerbaijan border once again proves that Azerbaijan is a threat to regional security. He called on international community to give an adequate assessment of the incidents so that Azerbaijani president Aliyev could not give lessions on democracy in Europe.

Azerbaijani side attempted an act of sabotage near Baghanis village on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The corresponding rapid response unit of the Armenian army intercepted and neutralized the operations of the Azerbaijani sabotage team.

Unfortunately, [Armenian] shepherd Seryozha Sargsyan (born in 1935), who was in the area, also was killed during the exchange of fire.
