YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov on Tuesday met with Greek Ambassador Ioannis Taghis.

Sharmazanov stated that Armenian-Greek relations were productive in the year past. In addition, the NA deputy chairman once again thanked the Hellenic parliament for passing a resolution that condemns the Armenian Genocide. In this context, Eduard Sharmazanov informed the Greek diplomat that he and his colleagues have tabled an NA draft statement against the genocidal policy of the Ottoman Empire, and that this statement also refers to the Greeks who likewise have suffered genocide.

The interlocutors underscored the passing of the NA statement from the viewpoint of international condemnation of genocides.

The Armenian parliament vice-chair and the Greek ambassador also discussed matters of mutual interest, reflected on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, and highlighted the further development of interparliamentary ties.

Ambassador Ioannis Taghis thanked Eduard Sharmazanov for the aforesaid NA draft statement. He also commented on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, and noted that, as per Greece, this conflict can be resolved within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, and solely by way of a pacific settlement.
