Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated that his country is carrying out activities against the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Cavusoglu responded to journalists’ questions, Haberturk website of Turkey informed.
He noted that Turkey is carrying out systematic work against the Armenian initiatives toward the recognition of the genocide.
And in response to the query in connection with the forthcoming European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) hearing on the Dogu Perincek vs. Switzerland case, the Turkish FM noted that he had said previously, as well, that he would have wanted for the Turkish courts to permit Perincek to leave Turkey, head for the ECHR, and attend this hearing.
Mevlut Cavusoglu added that Turkish MPs likewise will be present at this trial.
The Government of Switzerland had decided to petition that the Dogu Perincek case be referred for a review by the ECHR Grand Chamber. In December 2013, the ECHR had ruled in favor of Armenian Genocide-denying Turkish politician Dogu Perincek’s lawsuit that was filed against Switzerland. The said judgment by the ECHR was made on the grounds of freedom of speech. In 2008, a Swiss court had convicted Perincek for denying the Armenian Genocide.
Dogu Perincek is Chairman of the socialist Workers’ Party of Turkey. In addition, he heads the Talat Pasha organization, which actively fights against the Armenian Genocide’s recognition in Europe.t
