YEREVAN. – The customs duty for the white sugar (purified sugar) imports into Armenia will remain 10 percent for another two years.

The respective decision was made at Thursday’s Cabinet session.

At present, the single Eurasian Economic Union customs duty for white sugar stands at 70 percent of the cost, per ton.

Minister of Economy Karen Chshmarityan explained that this decision has to do with the companies—Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia, and Jermuk International Pepsi Cola Bottler—that produce gaseous drinks in Armenia, and which import sugar for independent production.

The quota for the sugar these companies need is set at 4,000 tons per year. Accordingly, Coca-Cola and Pepsi can get 90 percent, whereas any other company in this domain may receive the remaining 10 percent of this quota.
