YEREVAN. – Tension on Armenia-Azerbaijan border existing since the end of last year has a preserving trend, Armenian Defense Minisetr Seyran Ohanyan told RFE/RL Armenian service.

The Minister said the situation is under control of the Armed Forces of Armenia and the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Any action of the opponent gets an adequate response, and effective decisions are made as a result of the corresponding analyzes.

“Nevertheless, I can say that there is tension,” the Minister said.

Responding to a question whether tensions are likely to grow into large-scale hostilities, Seyran Ohanyan said: “I do not think it can lead to large-scale hostilities. I believe that in the end the military and political leadership of the adversary must realize that the military option is not the right decision to solve this problem. On the contrary, military leaders need to create an atmosphere of trust for continuation of the negotiations,” he said.
