YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday issued a message on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

“The genocide, which was committed against the Jews during the years of World War II, is indeed one of the severest and most tragic pages of human history.

“The remembrance of the Holocaust victims, and the condemnation of this slaughter are topical.

“It is a doubtless truth that forgetting the victims of genocides, and denial—especially at the state level—is a phase of this crime. It is a twofold crime not solely toward the innocent victims, but the present and the future.

“Perhaps it could have been possible to prevent the crimes that were perpetrated under the guise of World War II, if the crimes that were committed against humanity in the years of the First World War had deserved a full international condemnation, and those responsible had received a deserving punishment.

“I would like to express support and solidarity to the Jewish people, [and] the Jewish community in Armenia. The Armenian people, who this year commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, are most joined with the pain of the Jewish people,” the Armenian President’s message specifically runs.
