YEREVAN. – Armenian military serviceman Hovhannes Avanesyan, who was wounded during yet another sabotage attempt by Azerbaijan, was operated on again.

Armenia MOD Central Clinical Military Hospital Director Aram Asaturyan told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“We did a spine surgery, [and] repaired his backbone; fortunately, the surgery was successful. We will have him sit in the coming days,” Asaturyan said.

He noted that the soldier is now in stable condition, but they hope his liver does not cause new complications.

Asaturyan added that Avanesyan’s spinal cord was damaged, and there is a 99-percent chance that he will not walk again. But, as per the physician, miracles happen, and thanks to intensive rehabilitation, he might be able to walk again to some extent.

As reported earlier, an Azerbaijani sabotage and intelligence-gathering team had launched an attack, on January 23 at around 9am, in the direction of several military outposts of the Berd area of Armenia’s Tavush Region.

Lieutenant Karen Galstyan, and Private Artak Sargsyan were killed as a result of the gunshot wounds they had sustained during the resultant military operations.

Private Hovhannes Avanesyan also had sustained a gunshot wound, and he was in very critical condition. Later, Avanesyan was transferred from the Berd hospital to the Armenia MOD Central Clinical Military Hospital in capital city Yerevan.
