YEREVAN. – Armenian National Assembly (NA) Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also Head of the NA Armenia-Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, on Monday met with Greek Ambassador Ioannis Taghis.

First, Ambassador Taghis expressed his satisfaction with the NA draft statement, whereby Armenia recognizes and condemns the 1914-1923 genocide of the Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Turkey. Sharmazanov, for his part, noted that this statement aims to restore historic justice, internationally condemn genocide, protect human rights, and fight against Turkey’s denialism. He also expressed the hope that this draft statement will be adopted in the near future.

At the ensuing talk, the Armenian parliament deputy chair and the Greek ambassador underscored the need to hold, in the Hellenic Parliament, an exhibition on the Armenian Genocide.

In addition, the parties expressed a conviction that the bilateral interparliamentary ties will continue developing also after the recent parliamentary elections in Greece.
