YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan issued a message of condolence to German President Joachim Gauck, and on the passing of the former German President, outstanding statesman and humanitarian, Richard von Weizsäcker.

Sargsyan stressed that Von Weizsäcker’s death is a great loss to the civilized society.

“Richard von Weizsäcker left an indelible mark in Germany’s reconciliation with the former communist states [, including Armenia], and in building interstate relations.

“During his days [in office as President], diplomatic relations were established between our [two] countries, becoming a foundation for the development of Armenian-German interstate relations,” the Armenian President’s message of condolence runs, in particular.
