YEREVAN. – Opposition Heritage Party will discuss the matter of whether to boycott the next four-day National Assembly (NA) session, if the non-pro-government Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) petitions to Heritage with such a request. Heritage’s NA Faction Secretary Tevan Poghosyan told about the abovementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
He noted that any political force has a right to develop its actions.
“We will respect their [the PAP’s] decision. They have not yet petitioned [to us], nor have we had [respective] discussions. If they petition, we will discuss,” the opposition MP said. “Nonetheless, I believe the NA is a platform where a struggle needs to be waged, too.”
Poghosyan stressed that they condemn the beating of PAP activist Artak Khachatryan, that the law enforcement agencies have work to do, and the perpetrators must be held strictly accountable.
And as for what might happen as a result of the next NA session being boycotted, Heritage’s MP stated that the ruling Republican Party has a majority in the parliament, and therefore it still can conduct the NA sessions, and, in this respect, boycotting the parliamentary sessions is just a political message.
As reported earlier, PAP activist Artak Khachatryan was taken to hospital by an ambulance on February 7 at around 7pm. According to his brother, about forty minutes earlier, Khachatryan was left outside his apartment in a “battered and broken, semi-conscious condition.” Earlier in the morning of the same day, news was disseminated that Artak Khachatryan had been abducted. Subsequently, the Prosperous Armenia Party Political Board had issued a statement proposing its parliamentary faction to boycott the next National Assembly regular four-day session.
