YEREVAN. – Defense Minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan on Monday received a delegation led by Ambassador Herbert Salber, the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia.
The main objective of this talk was to exchange views on the ongoing developments in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Armenia MOD press service informed.
Ohanyan briefed his interlocutor on the current situation on the Line of Contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces. He also invited the EU envoy’s attention on the sharp increase of the tension since the beginning of the year, and on the need for the international community to inhibit the aggressive actions by the Azerbaijani armed forces. The minister also reaffirmed the importance of implementing confidence-building measures on the Line of Contact between the conflicting sides.
Expressing concern by the more frequent recent incidents on the frontlines, Ambassador Salber, for his part, noted that the EU accepts the OSCE Minsk Group’s leading role in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, and stands ready to contribute to the negotiation process with this format.
