YEREVAN. – Modern-day Turkey continues the policy of Armenian Genocide denial.
Armenia Presidential Chief of Staff Vigen Sargsyan, who is also coordinator of the Armenian Genocide centenary commemoration events, stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s “At the Foot of Mount Ararat” media international forum.
He noted that according to experts, unless the Armenian Genocide is recognized, this topic will not be exhausted.
“Turkey continues conducting its hostile policy towards Armenia. The closed Armenian-Turkish border is the last fragment of the Iron Curtain. Its objective is to make Armenia more yielding in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. But this certainly has nothing to do with the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process,” Sargsyan stressed. “Turkey conducts a hostile policy also within international organizations by openly supporting Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian initiatives.”
As per the Armenia Presidential Chief of Staff, Armenia’s policy towards Turkey, on the other hand, has never been hostile.
“We have never posited the Armenian Genocide recognition preconditions on the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations,” Vigen Sargsyan noted. “Ever since the first day of its independence [in 1991], Armenia has announced its readiness to normalize relations with Turkey.”
