YEREVAN. – The British citizens will observe the events of 1915 regardless of religious affiliation.
British Conservative Party MP Sajjad Karim, who is also a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), told the aforesaid to Armenian News-NEWS.am.
To the query on what view the British Muslim organizations and activists may have on the Armenian Genocide recognition issue, the MEP responded that Great Britain does not consider this matter from the religious perspective.
“Every citizen of the United Kingdom [UK] will consider it a problem existing between Turkey and Armenia. The religion factor will have no impact in this case, and mainly because the victims of the horrific massacres in those years were subjects of the Ottoman Empire,” Karim noted. “Therefore, in the modern context, the matter should be resolved between Turkey and Armenia.”
