A Moscow court on Thursday sentenced Artur Mirzoyan, who had fired shots toward the Turkish embassy in the Russian capital city, to two years in prison.

Mirzoyan’s attorney, Georgi Shatvoryan, told the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“[But] we don’t agree with the verdict, and we are going to appeal the verdict,” Shatvoryan said. “Artur Mirzoyan took this step because Turkey does not recognize the Armenian Genocide, and, in this way, Artur wanted to draw the attention of the international community to what had occurred [in 1915].”

To note, Artur Mirzoyan is a Russian Federation citizen, and the CEO of Dobry Les JSC.

As reported earlier, Artur Mirzoyan, 43, had fired two shots—with a hunting gun—at the coat of arms of the Turkish republic outside the Turkish embassy in Moscow, in the early morning hours on August 18, 2014. Mirzoyan was detained several hours later, and a criminal case was opened against him.
