Members of the US House of Representatives have sent a bipartisan letter to President Obama, encouraging him, this April, to properly affirm the Armenian Genocide as a clear case of genocide, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The House letter, spearheaded by Armenian Caucus Co-Chairmen Robert Dold (R-IL) and Frank Pallone (D-NJ), and who are joined by fifty House members, echoed language from President Obama’s campaign promise to recognize the Armenian Genocide: “A clear recognition of the Armenian Genocide, particularly in this Centennial year, would affirm that the Armenian Genocide is not an allegation, a personal opinion, or a point of view, but rather a widely documented fact supported by an overwhelming body of historical evidence.”  They added that: “A principled Presidential statement clearly citing the Armenian Genocide would help strengthen condemnations of the past, and recognize the important relationship the United States shares with Armenia today.”

As reported earlier, US senators also called upon President Obama to reaffirm the Armenian Genocide, this April, as a clear case of genocide.

In a letter sent last week to the White House, fifteen senators underscored the urgent need – on the eve of the Armenian Genocide Centennial – to properly honor the victims of this crime and underscore America’s principled stand against all genocides – past, present, and future.
